| Brunko R. Miljus Miljus, Brunko R. Sept. 3, 1927 - Missing In Action Sgt. Miljus became MIA on Feb. 12, 1951. After being captured by the Chinese or North Korean People's Forces, he was held Prisoner of War in the area of Saemal, North Korea. Although reported as having died while a POW, no further information on Sgt. Miljus was available. On May 13, 1992, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea returned boxes of remains purportedly to be American serviceman. Through extensive sampling for DNA, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command has identified Sgt. Miljus. The repatriated remains will be interred at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Willamette National Cemetery. Sgt. Miljus is survived by his brother, George; widow, Leis Virnig; son, Stephen; grandchildren, Stephanie, John and Elana; and seven great-grandchildren. Published in The Oregonian on April 27, 2011 |
